I am using RS SP2 with SQL 2k SP4.
I have a fairly large report, in the region of a few hundred pages. It has a
couple of parameters that filters the data. I have it linked from a web
application and it goes directly to PDF. If the parameters are set the
report renders to PDF pretty quickly, the size runs from 1 page to 70 pages.
If we try to render the whole thing it just sits and sits and sits. I let it
run for an hour at one point at the report never appeared. The CPU is spiked
to 25% continually and eventually I have to do an iisreset to. Now I am
pretty sure, say 95% sure that this report worked fine with RS SP1 and SQL
2k SP3a.
So two questions.
Is there a known problem with large PDF exports?
Does anyone know if any third parties are selling PDF rendering extensions
for sql reporting services? I know there is at least one for Excel. So 1 - 70 pages is fast. How many pages is it if it is the whole thing? PDF
rendering and Excel rendering are very resource intensive.

>|||Good news and bad news
Good news is I have figured out the problem. Bad news is it does appear to
come from a PDF rendering bug.
We mad a minor change to the report and uploaded it, which is when we saw
the problem. I rolled back the report, redeployed and all is well, renders
290 pages in around 20 seconds.
The report has a table with 4 groups. On the third group we added a single
blank row above the group row. The group row contains some text. So for
groups #3 we have two header rows, one blank the other has a datafield. We
basically wanted to add some whitespace. With that extra blank row the
report with null parameters will not render and just pegs the CPU. If we
remove the row it works fine. If we supply a parameter to filter the report
it will render in both cases. I don't know at what point it breaks and I
don't really have the time to mess with it.
I will leave it without the whitespace for now but its very annoying to have
such a simple report change break the rendering.

pb replication with sql express 2005
Hi,
I have a main database server running sql server 2000 with sp4.
I have a a subscriber running sqlexpress 2005 server.
I use transactionnal replication with updates autorise on the subscriber.
My configuration seems correct as i can modify my tables content with INSERT
command and found the information replicated in both server.
But each time i try to modify my data using Update commands
update planning set planning_previ_valide = 1 where id_plan = 3656
an error message is displayed
(this is the french version of the error message saying that i have overtake
the limit of 32 triggers, stored procedures, functions ...)
Msg 217, Niveau 16, tat 1, Procdure UserUpdatePlanning, Ligne 10
Le niveau maximal d'imbrication des procdures stockes, des fonctions, des
dclencheurs ou des vues est dpass (limite 32).
Do you have an idea ?
Regards,
Marc
On the server where you get the error, have a look for update triggers on the
Planning table - it seems there is recursion going on which exceeds the max
permitted looping of 32.

Patching WMSDE with SP4
Can anyone tell me whether WMSDE (which installs with WSUS) can be patched?
I am trying to apply MSDE SP4 to the WSUS instance and it returns an error
message stating that SQL server is not installed.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Hi
You may want to print the exact error message, but any instance of SQL
Server should be patchable with the correct patch file.

Patching WMSDE db's
Howdy,
Working on sql sp4 patching, we have one db that is an MSDE hybrid..WMSDE,
which is what ships with WSUS. If installed as the default on a Windows 200
3
server what sql version is it at, and has anyone had any experience with
patching this with MSDE SP4?
thxExperiencing the same issue on a WSUS server. ISS Internet Scanner says it
needs SQL SP4, but SP4 will not install. Anyone know if there is a version
of SP4 specifically designed for WMSDE? or whether or not WMSDE can be patc
hed at all?

Patch SP4 hanging
SP4 installation hangs. I used windows login to do the patch, a message
saying that it is not a valid user. I selected "retry" then used "sa". It
started hanging when "...MDAC" message disappeared.
I checked c:\winnt\sqlsp.log file. It is different from the files on the
other normal patched servers.
The last 2 lines in the file are:
End: Installpkgs(ID_INSTALLMDAC)
**** Starting open OP in write mode ****
What is the cause? How to fix it?
Hi Julia
You may want to try using the MDAC component checker to see if you have a
consistent installation of MDAC and possibly loading MDAC MDAC 2.8 SP1 if on
Windows 2000 or MDAC 2.8 SP2 if on XP/Windows 2003 before installing the
service pack.

Patch question re: SQL 7.0 SP4
I'm getting ready to apply SQL 7.0 SP4 and the SQL Server instance is running on Win NT
4.0 SP6. According to http://support.microsoft.com/?id=327068, there is an
O/S patch that needs to be applied, per KB 258437. Fine and well, but then
I see in http:/
/support.microsoft.com/?id=821279 that this patch superseeds (sp?) the previ
ous SQL patch.
So, all that being said, do I still need to apply the O/S patch in KB 258437
? At what point to I apply the patch; before SP4, between SP4 and KB 821279
, or after KB 821279?
Better yet, how do I convince management / users / vendors to upgrade to Win
2K / SQL 2K? ;-)
TIA,
Mike
mstuart_nospam@.gates.comAll,
FYI, I spoke to some folks at Microsoft, and I was told to install SP4 then KB821279 (p
atch available at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&displaylang=en) and that should take care of i

Patch Level
What patch level is:
Microsoft SQL Server 7.00 - 7.00.1141
It SP4 but what Q article is also installed. Looked
everywhere and all I can find is 7.00.1094 which is
SP4+Q815495
Thanks in advanceHi,
I tried looking and could not find anything either.
But there is back door approach: you could look at the
patches installed on the server by going to through the
control panel and going through Add or Remove Programs.
You will be able to see any hot fixes that are installed
on your machine. You could then narrow your search.
