PDF iFilter on WSS?

I have installed the Adobe PDF iFilter on our WSS server.
1 - How WSS knows about the PDF iFilter installation.
2 - Is there any place on "Central Admin" to add the PDF file type?
3 - Any place to add the PDF icon?
4 - Do I have to rebuild all my Full-Text Catalogs?
5 - Any reported major problems
6 - Anything else I have to do to get things working properly?
Does the following help:
To specify the .gif file that you want to use for the icon that represents
Adobe PDF documents that are stored in Windows SharePoint Services document
libraries, follow these steps:
Copy the .gif file that you want to use for the icon to the following folder
on the server:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server
Extensions\60\Template\Images
Edit the Docicon.xml file to include the .pdf file name extension. To do so:
Start Notepad, and then open the Docicon.xml file. The Docicon.xml file is
located in the following folder on the server:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web server
extensions\60\Template\Xml
In the <ByExtension> section of the Docicon.xml file, add an entry for the
..pdf file name extension. To do so, add the following line, where
NameofIconFile is the name of the .gif file:
<Mapping Key="pdf" Value="PDFIcon.gif"/>
For example, if the name of the .gif file is MyPicture.gif, add the
following line:
<Mapping Key="pdf" Value="MyPicture.gif"/>
On the File menu, click Save, and then quit Notepad.
Restart Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). To do so:

pbm while connecting to a remote server

Hi,
I have a pbm while connecting to the remote SQL server.
Recently we hired one win2003 based Dedicated server and installed SQl
server 2000. I have the sa password and the ip of the server, and when i
connect to this server from my local machine by configuring client n/w
utility, its giving me the error. like SQL server Does not exists ?
What shall i do ? i've disabled the firewall also, but not successful yet.
Also one more problem. The version i've installed is Enterprise Edition, and
will there be any problem if i uninstall it and reinstall the Standard
edition?

You should have no problems with un-installing Enterprise Edition and
re-installing Standard if you are not using any of the additional features
that it has. You may want to look at
http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...b;en-us;Q314546 for
transferring logins and dealing with Orphaned users if you have them. Make
sure that the new version is service packed and patched to the same level.
Backing up your database before un-installation will make sure that you have
a safe copy.
When you install the new system make sure that the correct protocols are
listed on the server's server network utilities. Check that you can ping the
server from your client and that the client also has the correct network
protocols. You may want to try SQLPing or SQLRecon to see if the server is
contactable.

Howdy,
Working on sql sp4 patching, we have one db that is an MSDE hybrid..WMSDE,
which is what ships with WSUS. If installed as the default on a Windows 200

server what sql version is it at, and has anyone had any experience with
patching this with MSDE SP4?

needs SQL SP4, but SP4 will not install. Anyone know if there is a version

contact MS to get them and then they would probably charge you unless you
have the problem that they fix. There has been 1 security patch, MS03-031,

What patch level is:
Microsoft SQL Server 7.00 - 7.00.1141
It SP4 but what Q article is also installed. Looked
everywhere and all I can find is 7.00.1094 which is
SP4+Q815495

I tried looking and could not find anything either.
But there is back door approach: you could look at the
patches installed on the server by going to through the
control panel and going through Add or Remove Programs.
You will be able to see any hot fixes that are installed
on your machine. You could then narrow your search.

Hi!
We installed a new router and now the ftp server only works in passive mode.
Is there a way to configure the replication agent to transfer the snapshot
using PASV?

no, SQL Server replication only supports the ftp command set used by
Microsoft FTP server. You are free to use any other vendor's FTP server, but
are restricted to Microsoft's FTP command set.

I installed SQL 2000 with default sort order. I though the password for SQL
logins is case-sensitive but it is not. Is that correct?
Thanks.Yes ...the passwords are not case sensitive... because of the collation
level . I beleive you might be able to change the collation for the password
column in sysxlogins table. Not tried it out but might be interesting if it
can be done

Password out of synch between W2K & Local SQL Server on my Worksation

Hi,
I had this problem in version 7 and dont remneber How I solved it!!
I have installed a local SQL Server (2000 aka version 8) on my
Worksation (W2K), I have picked NT authuntication.
Everything was fine untill I changed my password. Now SQL server can
not start because it fails to login. The old password is embedded
somwhere and I cant egt to it!!!
My workstation is on a network, so the password is my network
password.
Everythinng is MS on our network.

Any help would be appreciated.

Right-click My Computer, select Manage. In MMC find Services, and
in the list find the MSSQL Service. Right-click, select Properties
and there switch to the Log On tab. Change the password.

It's probably a good idea to have a special user for SQL Server that
can't log in interactively, so you don't have to change the password.

In log file, it did mentioned that the installation is
successfull at it's end of the file. However the SA
password is blank eventhough I gave the password
as "apple". Why did this happen. Is there anything wrong
in my setup parameter mentioned in the Command Prompt?
Help required on this matter, cos there are several
computers left to install MSDE 2000 and hoping to use the
above setup parameters.

the command line is ok, and i reproduced the problem on a Win2k box, where
SECURITYMODE=SQL has not been honored...
will investigate a little further... for workaround, run Regedit, locate
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\InstanceName\MSSQLServer
and set LoginMode key = 2

Can I find out the password for the "sa" account from Enterprise Manager?
When I originally installed the 120 evaluation license for SQL Server, I did so under Windows Authentication. Up until recently I have only connected to the server through the start menu using Enterprise Manager and I am never asked for a password. I assu
me that is because it sees that I am already authenticated by my Windows XP login.

using sp_password. Open Query Analyzer, connect as a windows administrator
account, and run:
EXEC sp_password 'sa', 'newpassword'

The login 'PONTIAC\kvaughn2' does not exist.
The above listed account is a Administrator. The OS is windows 2000 sp4.

sp_password as I suggested, changing the password for the login sa? Or are
you mixing things up and trying to change the password for kvaughn2? You
can't do the latter, this is controlled by Windows, since this is a Windows
user, not a SQL login.
My impression from your initial post is that you wanted to change the
password for the sa account, not for a Windows account.

explicitly denied any privileges, you should be able to successfully run
sp_password.

Password for SA

Can I find out the password for the "sa" account from Enterprise Manager?
When I originally installed the 120 evaluation license for SQL Server, I did
so under Windows Authentication. Up until recently I have only connected to
the server through the start menu using Enterprise Manager and I am never a

me that is because it sees that I am already authenticated by my Windows XP
login.

account, and run:

Thanks for your answer it was very helpful.
However in my case I got the following error message
Server: Msg 15007, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_password, Line 40
The login 'PONTIAC\kvaughn2' does not exist.
The above listed account is a Administrator. The OS is Windows 2000 sp4.
Help?

Password does not meet Windows policy requirements 2005

I have been given the task to see if our software will work against SQL
Server 2005:-
XP Pro installed on a Virtual PC
SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition Installed
Mixed mode Security
Check policy set to off
Installation of 2005 was successful and no error reported in the logs.
Now the fun started hen attempting to install our software, using the SA
account (we have also created additional SQL logins too but still have the
same problem) it gets as far as creating the various databases but when
attempting to create tables it receives the following error:-
Create Table failed
SQL-DMO error: 15118 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]
Password validation failed.The password does not meet Windows policy
requirements because it is not complex enough
The password we are using meets the criteria for creating passwords and I
have also checked Windows Security Settings and the Passord Policy 'Password
must meet complexity requirements' is disabled
If you need any additional information please let me know.

Dear Friends
I have installed MSDE version on my pc but for the same
it have asked me to change the password of SA now i want
to change the password of SA with OSQL utility as i do
not have the Enterprise mangaer. Plese suggest how i can
change the same.
