PDF-Export Format not readable for non-windows users

Hi NG,
i received the following mail today:

May be the reason is that I didn't read
this file with the Acroreader version 7.0 which is the latest available
for Windows. Please take into account that not everybody lives in a

fix my problems?
I got the beta SP2 already here, but the production environment is german so
i couldn't install the sp2 there.

What is implemented in the released version of Reporting Services concidering
generating PDF output directly out of reporting serivces?
The white paper says: â'You are not required to run any Adobe software on the
report server in order to render reports in PDF.â' In the hand book to
Reporting Services of Brian Larson it is written: ""First of all, you will
need some type of utility to produce output in a PDF format. This could be

PDF file featuring only the first page... why?

Hello,
I am struggeling with my .PDF file exports. One of our reports outputs 250
pages in the web interface. When I ask to output a PDF version of it, the
file contains only the first page but I really don't know why. Could it be a
problem with the .RDL file?!?

Marc LacoursiereAfter some more inspection... I have found something interesting!
The report contains a table which has 2 groups. Both of them were set to do
a page break after them. If I remove the page break in the inner group, but
leave the other intact, the problem is fixed.
For this report, it is now working perfectly. But I am still wondering why
would the PDF rendering stop because of a table containing two groups both
doing page breaks?
Suppose I am required to create such a behavior in a different report, would
I still be stuck with that issue?

PDF and Excel Issues

I have two issues when exporting a report to Excel or pdf.
1. When exporting to pdf, the underline font attribute is lost. Is
this a version issue or is there something I can do to circumvent this
(other than place a border on the text box which will look bad)?
2. When exporting to pdf and Excel, I am getting a lot of white space
at the start of the report (in pdf) or between list items (in excel).
The pdf white space is almost an entire page.
I am using Reporting Services SP1.I am not seeing the first issue. I can successfully export textboxes with
underline set.
On the second one, do you have CanGrow on textboxes with extra content in
them (spaces, returns)?

I do have some text boxes with cangrow, but they are pretty limited in
size. When I looked at the PDF, it was not really empty space, rather
it was not writing some of the report items. I have a table in a list
box for employee data. The report required a parameter which would
then render the report for that company. Some of the employee tables
were not writing to PDF - it would skip the first 6-7 employees and
pick up from there. I was actually able to address this with
rewriting some of the report. The list was grouping on a number of
items, some of which could be null. I addressed the null in the
stored procedure so that it was replaced with an actual value, and
that seemed to work. Those nasty nulls can sneak up on you! It
should be noted that this was consistant for specific parameters which
caused larger reports. The small one to two page reports didn't seem
to have an issue, with or without nulls.

been trying a couple of things, and the null grouping wasn't the
solution. Actually, here is the skinny.
I have a table of employee data. I had a list which grouped the
employee id inside a group for location which was inside a group for
company. All of these list groups were necessary to provide the
different pieces of information to the user. A text box with the
employee name was placed in the employee list group and also a table
provided the detail employee information necessary. When this is
rendered to the Report Manager, all is visible as expected. When I
render to PDF, the first several employees are missing with the larger
reports.
To work around this issue, I instead placed a table header with the
employee name on the table and removed the Employee id list. This
table was then placed in the location group. All data is now
rendered as expected in PDF. This is not as the users hoped, as the
text box allowed me to move the employee name where they wanted on the
report and I am a bit more limited with the table grouping.

Post SP2 there are also some additional fixes the last publically available
hotfix is http://support.microsoft.com/?Kbid=934459
You should test your applications to make sure they are still working on the
upgraded version before moving.

Password Protect Crystal Report

Hi, everyone -

This may be a rather simple query, but I'm going to put it out there:

We're using Crystal Report Version 8.5 at work, and I have created several reports that I would like to password protect because of personnel issues. Can someone help me out in terms of how I can password protect a document in Crystal? Thanks so much............. :confused:As far as I know it's not possible.

Password out of synch between W2K & Local SQL Server on my Worksation

I had this problem in version 7 and dont remneber How I solved it!!
I have installed a local SQL Server (2000 aka version 8) on my
Worksation (W2K), I have picked NT authuntication.
Everything was fine untill I changed my password. Now SQL server can
not start because it fails to login. The old password is embedded
somwhere and I cant egt to it!!!
My workstation is on a network, so the password is my network
password.
Everythinng is MS on our network.

Any help would be appreciated.

Right-click My Computer, select Manage. In MMC find Services, and
in the list find the MSSQL Service. Right-click, select Properties
and there switch to the Log On tab. Change the password.

It's probably a good idea to have a special user for SQL Server that
can't log in interactively, so you don't have to change the password.

In log file, it did mentioned that the installation is
successfull at it's end of the file. However the SA
password is blank eventhough I gave the password
as "apple". Why did this happen. Is there anything wrong
in my setup parameter mentioned in the Command Prompt?
Help required on this matter, cos there are several
computers left to install MSDE 2000 and hoping to use the
above setup parameters.

the command line is ok, and i reproduced the problem on a Win2k box, where
SECURITYMODE=SQL has not been honored...
will investigate a little further... for workaround, run Regedit, locate
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\InstanceName\MSSQLServer
and set LoginMode key = 2
