Passing table-type variables to SP?

Sorry about posting twice, but I had some trouble with setting the date on
this machine...
I would like to write a stored procedure that takes a table (i.e. table
variable) as its parameter.
E.g.:
DECLARE @.mytable = TABLE(ID INT, NAME VARCHAR(50))
SP_MYPROC @.mytable
What should SP_MYPROC's signature look like? I can't seem to be able to find
anything about this in the documenation.
I guess it would look something like this:
ALTER PROCEDURE SP_MYPROC
(@.t TABLE)
or
ALTER PROCEDURE SP_MYPROC
(@.t TABLE(ID INT, NAME VARCHAR(50)))
Actually, how big is the freedom when taking such a parameter? Is it enough
to use the first version and treat the table whatever way I would like to?
E.g. not assuming that the 'NAME' column is a VARCHAR(50), but taking
any tables the second column of which is of type VARCHAR of any size.

You can not pass a table data type to a stored procedure. You may want to
use temporary tables instead.

data_type
Is the parameter data type. All data types, except the table data type, can
be used as a parameter for a stored procedure. However, the cursor data type
can be used only on OUTPUT parameters. When you specify a data type of
cursor, the VARYING and OUTPUT keywords must also be specified. For more
information about SQL Server - supplied data types and their syntax, see
Data Types.

can T-SQL allow table variables to be passed into user defined functions for
processing? i'm trying to work a function with that but sql2k doesn't seems

No. If you post a fuller description of what you want then maybe we can

Whenever possible please post enough code to reproduce your problem.
Including CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements usually helps.
State what version of SQL Server you are using and specify the content
of any error messages.

Hello,
What is the syntax to pass a table name to a stored procedure?
I know how to pass other variables, but can't get this to work..
Right now I have (and it doesn't work):
CREATE PROCEDURE storedProc1((@.rateID int, @.table varchar(20))
AS
SELECT *
FROM
@.table --this is the problem here
WHERE ID_LOGGING_RATE = @.rateID
RETURN
GO
Can someone tell me how to make this work?

table's name as a parameter to create a dynamic sql statement is not
considered a good practice.
Example:
CREATE PROCEDURE storedProc1
@.rateID int,
@.table sysname
AS
set nocount on
declare @.sql nvarchar(4000)
set @.sql = N'SELECT * FROM ' + quotename(@.table) + N' WHERE ID_LOGGING_RATE

table names or column names as variables is a very bad idea and isn't
supported at all by standard SQL. Doing this undermines the usefulness of
server-side code, degrades performance and weakens the security model.
With good design it shouldn't usually be necessary to parameterize metadata.
Why don't you know the names of your tables at design time?
If you think you have to do this then you'll have to resort to dynamic SQL
with all that implies. Read and understand the following article first:

Passing system variables to stored procedure

How do I pass system variables to a stored procedure? Is it possible to have an OLE DB transformation with the following sql command: exec InsertIntoLog @.MachineName, @.TaskName...? Do I have to use a Derived Transformation first to 'convert' variables into columns and then use exec InsertIntoLog ?, ? ...

In the execute sql task refer to parameters with question marks. Then on the parameter mapping page of the execute sql task you can map the question marks to variables.

Do you mean OLE DB source? It's pretty much the same as the execute sql task.

Put question mark's where you want the variable then click the 'parameters' button and choose the variable that you want to use for it.

If your source provider (DB2) doesn't allow you to pass parameters you'll have to create a variable that builds the sql statement referencing another variable. Then change the 'data access mode' in the ole db source to 'sql command from variable'.
